What is a Vascular Anomaly?
A vascular anomaly is an abnormal development of blood vessels (arteries, veins, or lymphatic vessels), present at birth or appearing later in life. They can range from simple birthmarks to complex tangles of vessels that can affect various parts of a child’s body. While some vascular anomalies are harmless and require no treatment, others can sometimes cause discomfort, cosmetic concerns, or affect how the body functions.

Patient Spotlight: Live-Saving Surgery Saves Pregnant Rumson Woman
During a 20-week ultrasound, Beth and Brian Mackey discovered their unborn daughter had hydronephrosis, a kidney abnormality. After consulting with pediatric urologist Dr. Kozakowski, they opted for surgery to correct the obstruction when their daughter, Marigold, was fourteen months old, leading to a successful outcome and healthy kidney function.

Meet-a-Doc: Meet Dr. Thomas Priolo!
Hackensack Meridian K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital proudly welcomes Thomas Priolo, M.D., Medical Director of Child and Adolescent Consult-Liaison Psychiatry. In addition to his duties within our hospital, Dr. Priolo is our newest pediatric expert to provide urgent care appointments for behavioral health in Neptune, NJ.
Dr. Priolo is specialized in diagnosing behavioral health conditions, and is experienced in triaging crisis cases for conditions including depression, anxiety, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, bipolar, psychotic illness. He is a partner in care with his patients, and serves as an ally for local medical providers and schools in the community for any children that are in a mental health crisis.
