Hackensack Meridian K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital proudly welcomes Thomas Priolo, M.D., Medical Director of Child and Adolescent Consult-Liaison Psychiatry. In addition to his duties within our hospital, Dr. Priolo is our newest pediatric expert to provide urgent care appointments for behavioral health in Neptune, NJ.
Dr. Priolo is specialized in diagnosing behavioral health conditions, and is experienced in triaging crisis cases for conditions including depression, anxiety, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, bipolar, psychotic illness. He is a partner in care with his patients, and serves as an ally for local medical providers and schools in the community for any children that are in a mental health crisis.

What do patients say about you?
That I am engaged in listening to both patient and families. I genuinely care about their well-being and always put myself in their shoes.
What is the #1 tip you always share with patient families?
The foundation of a family unit is open, honest, nonjudgmental dialogue between parents and children. Parents should provide quality family time while nurturing self-esteem and emotional availability. The goal should always be for a child to be comfortable to talk with their parents about all of life’s stressors.
How do you spend time with your friends and family for fun?
I am married, have a young son and daughter, as well as a golden retriever at home. Our boy keeps us busy, and always has big plans for us each day. We enjoy playing soccer, tee-ball, going on weekend getaways. Our daughter was just born last month and it has been a blessing to our family. We enjoy going out with our extended family, and really enjoy the community that we live in.
What do you enjoy most about New Jersey?
New Jersey has been great to us, I make a joke with my wife that we will grow old here together and nothing will change that. Growing up, and living, in New Jersey has been a rewarding environment. There is a nice sense of community, a school system that cares, and support from people around us. It has been my goal, and great honor, to be able to serve the people in my own community.
