Navesink Open Water Swim!

May 18 @ 7:00 am - 8:00 am

Navesink Open Water Swim | Saturday – May 18 (7am)
o This will be a GUARDED swim w/ (2) certified lifeguards present
o Open water swim, leaving from Victory Park in Rumson (swims will be in the Navesink River until the ocean warms to the mid/upper 50s & then transition to Long Branch)
o You can do as little/much as you like, as long as you’re finished within 1-hour of start time. Most of the group will swim from Victory Park to the sandbar (exactly 1/2-mile) & back (so 1-mile in total). You can also turn around early & therefore, swim as little/much as you like, as long as you’re finished within the 1-hour time frame.

*NOTE: This reading is taken closer to the ocean, so depending on the weather, the temperature at Victory Park could be +/- 3-5F.
o Saturday – May 18 (7-8am): Meet by 6:45am, start swimming at 7am (there is a HARD STOP at 8pm, so please plan accordingly to finish your swim by then)

o We will be meeting on the beach at directly in front of Victory Park in Rumson.

There should be ample parking in the areas around the location or on the adjoining streets.
COST: To cover costs of having lifeguards present…
o Members of the Sandy Hookers Triathlon Club, Jersey Shore Triathlon Club, Jersey Girl Triathlon, Fil Am Tri – East Coast, Gold Coast Triathlon Club, HighFive, Life Time Princeton Masters Swim & Central Jersey Triathlon Club Athletes = $10 /swim OR (3) swims for $20
o Non-Members = $20 /swim OR (3) swims for $30
o There will be a labeled canister located on the beach where we meet, please contribute your $ there.
o Water temperatures are expected to be in the upper 50’s & wetsuits are MANDATORY!! Actual water temperature will be posted in the days leading into the swim.
o This will be a guarded swim, but all swimmers should be comfortable swimming in excess of 400m in deep water, without stopping & NOT require the assistance of the lifeguard (he/she is there for rescues in extenuating circumstances).
o If you are completely new to Open Water Swimming, we suggest participating in one of our Open Water Clinics, to help gain confidence. Clinic dates are continually added/updated here:
Who is Coach Brian?
o Brian Shea comes to the program with a wealth of experience in endurance sports as an athlete, coach and consultant. He is the Founder & Head Coach/Consultant at JSM/Jersey Shore Masters & for over 25 years, has competed in all levels of endurance sports from 5K to Ultra-marathon Swims/Runs to Ironman.
o He has raced/won triathlons in the United States & abroad with multiple Ironman finishes including Ironman Hawaii with Personal Bests of:
5k – 15:54
Marathon – 2:49
Ironman – 9:31
Most recently, Brian has (6) top-10 finishes at the 9-mile Annual Swim for Alligator Light (Islamorada FL) as well as 1st, 2nd & 3rd place finishes (M40-49) at the United States Lifesaving Association National Championships.
o On the coaching side, Brian is a certified coach having formulated training and sports nutrition programs for athletes ranging from beginner to professional.
