IB STIM

Hackensack Meridian Children’s Health Offers New Hope for Young Patients with Chronic Abdominal Pain

Now available at both children’s hospitals from Hackensack Meridian Children’s Health–K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital in Neptune and Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital in Hackensack.

For parents of children suffering from the persistent pain of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and other functional abdominal pain disorders, finding effective care options can be a frustrating journey. Hackensack Meridian Children’s Health is now offering a groundbreaking, drug-free technology called IB-StimⓇ, a completely non-invasive approach to relief for patients aged 8 and older.

WHAT IS IB-STIM?

IB-Stim is the first device of its kind to manage functional abdominal pain, linked to IBS and functional dyspepsia in children. This non-invasive approach offers a significant alternative to traditional medication-based treatments, which can sometimes come with unwanted side effects.

The patient experience is designed to be minimally disruptive. The device is applied over the ear, without the need for anesthesia, and while the child is awake. Studies and clinical experience have shown that a majority of patients who use IB-Stim experience significant relief from their symptoms, with some even reporting a complete reduction in pain that can last over time.

Patient Spotlight:  Empowered Birth: How a Mother Partnered with Her Care Team for a Positive Delivery

Biomedical engineer Madison Godesky planned an unmedicated vaginal birth, at Ocean University Medical Center, using hypnobirthing but encountered challenges when her baby was in a difficult “sunny side up” position. Although she had to deviate from her plan by getting an epidural, her collaborative care team of midwives and nurses used skillful positioning techniques to successfully rotate the baby.
