This week’s Meet-a-Family feature introduces us to Jeff and Stacey Smidt, Colts Neck residents and owners of Puddle Pool Services of Monmouth County! This local couple is helping families across the area enjoy clean, safe, and stress-free pools and hot tubs—all year long. Learn how they got started, what makes their service unique, and how they balance entrepreneurship, family life, and backyard fun right here in Monmouth County.
Where are you from originally, and how long have you lived in Monmouth County?
Stacey: I grew up in Lincroft and graduated from Middletown South. We’ve lived in Colts Neck for four years now and really love the mix of quiet space and strong community. Monmouth County is such a special place—it’s exactly where we want to raise our family and build this business.
Tell us about your family!
Stacey: We have one little guy—our son, Colin, who was born in June—and he’s the happiest baby. Between my work as a pediatric sleep physician, launching the business, and family life, things are definitely busy—but we wouldn’t have it any other way.
What inspired you to bring Puddle Pools to Monmouth County?
Jeff: Right after Colin was born, we made the big decision that I’d leave corporate America to build something meaningful for our family and our community. We fell in love with the Puddle Pools brand and saw a real opportunity to improve pool care across the 40,000 swimming pools here in Monmouth County.
Stacey: We loved Puddle’s focus on transparency, friendly communication, and consistent quality. For example, every Puddle Pools visit ends with a digital e-Report that includes timestamps, photos, water test results, and a complete service summary. It sounds simple, but not every homeowner walks away knowing exactly what their pool professional did—or when!
What types of services do you offer?
Stacey: We provide year-round, full-service pool and hot tub maintenance—including openings and closings, our signature weekly or twice-weekly service, hot tub care, equipment repairs and replacements, vinyl liner replacements, and leak detection.
Jeff: We want to be “DFY” for Monmouth County families—Done For You. Pools and hot tubs should be a source of joy, not stress. One call to us, and we’ll handle it.
What makes Puddle Pools different from other pool companies?
Jeff: Transparency and care. Our technicians arrive in uniform, in bright, branded vehicles, and document everything they do. You’ll never have to chase us for updates—each visit ends with a full e-Report in your inbox.
We also live right here. If something isn’t right, you’re not calling a 1-800 number—you’re calling me. We treat every backyard like it’s our own.
What’s your favorite part about running your business locally?
Jeff: Definitely the people. We get to know our customers personally—their families, their pets, their routines. It feels less like “clients” and more like neighbors helping neighbors.
Stacey: And there’s so much pride in seeing our trucks drive through the same neighborhoods where we live. It’s rewarding to know we’re contributing something positive to the community we care about.
Any advice for local parents thinking about starting their own business?
Jeff: Do it for the right reasons. If you believe in what you’re offering and genuinely want to help people, it’ll show. And don’t wait for the “perfect” time—it doesn’t exist! We launched Puddle Pools with a newborn at home. It’s been busy, but it’s also been really fulfilling to serve our community. .
We’d love to connect!
