New Mom School is Opening Soon in Shrewsbury, NJ!
New Mom School offers in-person, expert-led classes designed to provide education, support and a community for new mothers navigating the transition into motherhood. From newborn care basics to managing a mother’s well-being, these classes equip moms not just to survive but to truly thrive in their new role.
Studies show that 85% of women in the US experience some form of postpartum distress from the more common ‘baby blues’ to depression. For the 1 in 7 who experience postpartum depression, it has lingering psychological effects and increases their risk of suicide for the next 18 years. This is a maternal mental health crisis that harms not only the health of moms but also that of their children. At the root of this problem is a crippling lack of support.
For over 12 years, New Mom School has supported more than 10,000 moms in Orange County, CA, and is now expanding nationwide – revolutionizing the way new moms are cared for. With 28 locations open or in development across the U.S., New Mom School is making its New Jersey debut this May with the opening of New Mom School Shrewsbury at 174 Patterson Ave.
What Sets New Mom School Apart?
Unlike traditional mommy-and-me classes, New Mom school stands out in three key ways:
- Classes by Birth Date: Moms are grouped by their baby’s birth date, ensuring everyone is experiencing the same phase of motherhood together. This creates a truly magical experience.
- Expert-Led, Research-Based Curriculum: Our licensed team of experts visit classes throughout the series to present the most current, research-based information in their areas of expertise and allows moms to ask their questions on a weekly basis.
- Focus on Both Mom and Baby: Beyond infant care, classes address crucial topics such as postpartum anxiety, relationship changes after baby and physical recovery, ensuring moms receive the support they need during this transformative time.
New Mom School Shrewsbury will offer four specialized class series:
- Newborn (0-3 months)
- Infant (3-6 months)
- Rising Toddler (6-12 months)
- Second-Time Mom (0-3 months)
Each class series runs for eight weeks, meeting once per week for 90 minutes. Class sizes are kept to 14 moms or fewer – allowing for meaningful connections and personalized support. For the Newborn and Second Time Mom series, expectant mothers are encouraged to pre-register during their pregnancy using their due date, ensuring their babies are grouped closely in age. Newborn moms will typically begin class when their baby is 3-6 weeks old.
In addition to the above class series, New Mom School Shrewsbury will offer a weekly Breastfeeding Support Group – a free resource open to all and will be led by an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).
