The Ashley Lauren Foundation is a non-profit organization located in Brielle that assists children throughout New Jersey who are suffering from cancer.
The Ashley Lauren Foundation was founded by Monica Vermeulen, in 2005 in honor of her daughter, Ashley Lauren, who battled Wilms’ Tumor (kidney cancer) at the age of three in 1991. Ashley lost her left kidney and adrenal gland to the disease followed by extensive chemotherapy and radiation treatments for several years along with their side effects. Ashley has survived this devastating journey and is now 37-years-old, married and is the mom of 3-year-old Cammy (despite the fact that doctors said that Ashley would not be able to have children because of her treatment). Ashley is also the owner of Be Free Creations in addition to teaching fitness classes at Coastal Core Fitness.
The mission of The Ashley Lauren Foundation is to provide financial, material and emotional support in addition to the many programs available to bring smiles to the children’s faces (Making Dreams Come True, Summer Boardwalk Party, Christmas Party, Outings, Birthdays, etc.).
The Foundation has helped thousands of children since inception (celebrating 20 years in 2025). At any given time, the Foundation is assisting over 100 children. “We are hands-on with the families we assist. I realized how vital the need for support was while I was going through this horrific journey with Ashley. We do everything we can to meet the needs of each family so they can concentrate on their child. We rely on the community-at-large to help us bring Hope & Help to each family.” (Monica Vermeulen)
