Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?

Originally, I’m from Millstone, New Jersey (Western Monmouth County). We have lived in Brielle, New Jersey for about 3 years and prior to that we lived in Wall, New Jersey.

Child(ren) and Age(s)?

Tara 8 years old
Shane 13 years old

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…

A very long time ago, I was one of the top teen female horse barrel racers in the State of New Jersey.

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?

My mother-in-law, Shannon DePinto. I would not have been able to keep my legal career moving without her. She’s cooked countless meals for us, picked up and stayed with my kids when they were sick and has made it to just about every sporting event.

Favorite things to do with your kids?

Go to the barn (Iron Gate farm in Upper Freehold) on Saturday mornings. Biking up to Manasquan Inlet where you can catch my son and husband surfing.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!

I’ve been a full time wills, trusts and estates lawyer in private practice for the last 13 years and am currently with the trust and estate department of Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer in their Monmouth County office located in Red Bank. I started out my legal career at 27 years old with a new baby (our son now 13 years old). Juggling the demands of private practice as a new attorney is difficult enough and being a new mom is hard too (at least for me it was). Doing both of those things for the first time and at the
same time was exhausting.

Outside of the office, I’m a volunteer on the Development and Governance Committee of Visiting Nurses Association (“VNA”) based out of Holmdel. I don’t think enough people know about the range of healthcare services that the VNA provides to Monmouth County residents. I certainly didn’t know about all of their services until I got involved with the governing body. They offer much more than just hospice care and I encourage everyone to take a look at their website.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

We’ve been fortunate to raise our kids in the Wall and Brielle communities. Each have a very strong sense of community and friendly supportive people. Any day of the week you can call on another parent if you need help getting your kids to a practice, home from school, to a birthday party etc…

What is your favorite restaurant in Monmouth County?

Four Winds in Wall Township

What is your favorite activity to do with your children in Monmouth County?

Hanging out at the Manasquan Inlet.

What are your Mom Goals?

As my kids are getting older to be supportive and open to their choices (whether it’s their choices in sports, hobbies, school, friends, music, religion, etc). When they are little you make most of the decisions for them and introduce them to things you liked and did as a kid, but somewhere along the timeline you involve them in the decision making process. It’s important to me that my kids know that I value their opinions and want them involved in decision making.
