At A Child’s Place School we believe that Children are Born Curious®. We view every child as already possessing the ability to explore, discover and learn as well as being competent and capable of forming their own theories about the world around them. For this reason no two years are the same at ACP, as the interests and needs of every child in the class change and require a response. When children have a seat at the curriculum table they are given the chance to pursue ideas that excite and motivate them. Our job is to harness that motivation to help them learn how to think rather than what to think. We believe that all people do their best work when they are valued and seen within a community that welcomes them for who they are. That being said, we do very much believe that each day should have a predictable structure with designated blocks of time for various curriculum themes. Our program recognizes the importance of collaboration and cooperation as we work with every child to develop their social-emotional skills including leadership, communication, empathy and engagement. Today’s modern child is at risk of viewing the world and adults as having a responsibility to entertain them. Children at ACP, however, are inspired and empowered to explore, problem solve and experience the joy of learning, building character and the ability to find fulfillment in their own pursuits.
Programs at A Child’s Place include: the Half Day Nursery Class offering three mornings for 2 ½ to 3 year olds and five mornings for 2 ½ to 5 year olds; the All Day Nursery Class for 4 and 5 year olds; and the full day Primary Class for 5 to 7 year olds. On either side of all of these programs is the option to use extended care from 8AM to 4PM. A weekly parent and toddler class (16 months to 2 ½ years old) is also offered during the year. ACP is currently enrolling for September 2024–visit the website to book your tour!

Our infants and toddlers spend the day with warm, mature caregivers who understand the developmental stages of young children. They encourage each child’s individual growth while providing parents with guidance as they work to achieve important milestones. The children learn communication with sign language reducing frustration levels while their verbal skills emerge. Our terrific twos enjoy a balance of nurturing and fun while exploring educational concepts. Large group instruction is introduced in playful ways that allow the children to learn to communicate, cooperate, and share. Alphabet, color, and shape recognition as well as calendar concepts are mastered during this year…and let’s not forget about potty training.
Our preschool and pre-kindergarten students are led by an experienced teacher who has all of the tools needed to deliver the highest level of learning. Children sing songs about the sounds letters make, strengthen their fine motor muscles to allow for neat handwriting, explore math concepts in everyday applications, participate in science experiments and discovery, and so much more. Every child receives small group computer instruction on a weekly basis.
Our School Age students enjoy before and after care inclusive of delayed openings and early releases. An afternoon snack is provided each day. Daily homework help is also available and care is offered on the many days local public schools are closed.

Ranney’s expert and caring Early Childhood (age 3 to Pre-Kindergarten) faculty guide their youngest learners to form foundational skills leveraging Reggio Emilia, a developmental theory that encourages learning through exploration and creation. Our teachers are specialists in Early Childhood Education and our classrooms intentionally support the learning process. The classroom starts in September with a blank canvas and evolves through the year as children take responsibility and demonstrate new knowledge. As a result, each classroom becomes a unique reflection of a particular class of students. Class spaces are in a constant state of growth and change; change that can be impacted by students’ own contributions.
Early Childhood classes are created in a way that allows students to receive nurturing, individualized attention. Students have the opportunity to visit the Searle Library, the Lower School music studio, world language classrooms, art, and the community garden. Specialized classes such as science and health are integrated within the homeroom setting. Early childhood students have the opportunity to build relationships with multiple “specials” teachers as they progress through their Lower School experience. Athletic facilities extend beyond the gymnasium and field spaces to include an indoor heated pool and outdoor play structures designed with a variety of age-appropriate physical challenges.
Ranney’s nurturing learning environment encourages children to build confidence, discover their talents, and love learning in Early Childhood, which extends into Lower School (Kindergarten through fifth grade), Middle School (sixth through eighth grade), and Upper School (9th through 12th grade.)
