Meet this awesome Ocean County mom- Ashley DeAzevedo. Read all about how Ashley didn’t let an amazing opportunity slip away and has not one, but two thriving businesses on opposite ends of the county.
Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?
I am from Brick, move to Monmouth County when my husband and I first moved in together and ended up back in Brick before I delivered our son.
Child(ren) and Age(s)?
Hudson- he will be 10 in August.
One thing people would be surprised to know about you.
I was originally going to college in D.C. for Political Science. I wanted to change the world. I hated being away from home and ended up coming right back.
Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?
My mom for always being there. She has never let me doubt myself as a mom and was always my calm in a storm. My husband for being a great father and partner. My mom friends for always keeping me sane and giving me a tribe I can count on for anything.
Favorite things to do with your kids?
This has changed over the years and different stages. I know it sounds corny but I just love to spend time with my son. I lost my dad in 2019 and it really gave me perspective on slowing down and making memories together even the little stuff!

I own (with my best friend, Sam) Colorbar The Salon in Spring Lake and also Society Salon in Los Angeles.
How it got started: I actually started working at the salon as the front desk receptionist and later became the manager. The previous owner’s were selling and asked if I wanted to purchase. I did (lol)! I asked my best friend, who at the time was working under a celebrity stylist in Los Angeles, to go in on it with me. I thought this was the best plan ever because it would bring my best friend back to Jersey. We ended up finalizing the sale in June of 2014 and by August of 2014 she had found us a location in LA and we signed that lease as well! It was a whirlwind to say the least.
What do I do: At this point, I run the administrative tasks in a very hands-on capacity.
Services we offer: Everything and anything hair related. We also offer makeup and wedding services and will begin offering nail services this fall.
Los Angeles: We are located in West Hollywood on Melrose Ave. amongst some huge name fashion designers, reality tv show bars and hangouts, etc.- a totally different vibe from Monmouth and Ocean County but the same philosophy and heart. We have insanely talented staff at both salons. Los Angeles is cool from a Jersey perspective because they get to do a ton of red carpet work, celebrity house calls, and a lot more model/print work. Our Jersey salon is much more low key but has the same level of talent. LA is a 22 chair salon and NJ is 8. So, significantly more intimate, 2 blocks from the Ocean, in ultra exclusive Spring Lake.
How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
My community is fierce supporters of their locals. They want you to succeed. Whether it is frequenting my salon, referring me to others, or attending special events- I have always loved where I live and work and feel like it’s all family.
What is your favorite restaurant in Ocean County?
Oooh that’s tough! We cook at home a lot (my husband is Brazilian and loves to cook) but I would say its a tough tie for Koi in Silverton or Beacon 70.
What is your favorite activity to do with your child(ren) in Ocean County?
Definitely hitting the beach!
What are your Mom Goals?
To make great memories, laugh a lot, and make things really special for my son. Most importantly, to raise a good man.
