Meet-a-Mom Monday: Meet Dr. Christine Schafer! | The Monmouth Moms

Mom to two boys, Christine and her husband live in Fair Haven, NJ. A board-certified dermatologist trained in adult and pediatric dermatology, Christine recently joined Dr. Kenneth Grossman’s exceptional dermatology practice, Little Silver Dermatology. Learn more in our interview below about Christine’s life here in Monmouth County, including her favorite dish at an amazing local spot, Drew’s Bayshore Bistro, some of the places she visits around town with her family, and how she’s relied on her incredible “village” to support her through motherhood!

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?

I grew up in Morristown, NJ. My husband, Kevin, is a Monmouth County native and we moved to Fair Haven this past summer.

Child(ren) and Age(s)?

We have two boys. Owen recently turned 3 years old and Auggie is 7 months.

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…

I have a second passport! My mom was born in Dublin, Ireland and I have dual citizenship. I can’t wait to go back as a family and watch as my boys experience the magic of Ireland for the first time.

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?

First and foremost, I have to thank my husband Kevin for being such a devoted dad and partner. We are extremely fortunate to have a very supportive family. My husband is living long-distance this year completing his orthopedic surgery fellowship. During this time, my parents, in-laws, sister, aunt, uncle and cousins have all stepped up in big ways to help us. From unpacking our house, to helping with weeknight meal prep and taking kids to last-minute doctor visits, I cannot thank them enough.

I also feel lucky to have a close-knit group of life-long friends from childhood and college, many with kids of similar ages. While most live far away, we are in constant touch – sharing toddler tantrum war stories and offering sleepless night solidarity.

The old adage, “it takes a village” rings very true to me.

Favorite things to do with your kids?

Despite being a dermatologist, I do enjoy the beach – with SPF of course! I love beach days spent together as a family.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!

I am a board-certified dermatologist trained in adult and pediatric dermatology, as well as dermatologic surgery and cosmetics. I recently joined Dr. Kenneth Grossman’s exceptional dermatology practice, Little Silver Dermatology. Together, we look forward to providing excellent dermatologic care to the community for years to come.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

Having recently joined Dr. Grossman’s very well-established dermatology practice, I have felt fortunate to be welcomed and embraced by our patients. It is my privilege to help take care of this community and I am committed to continuing our practice’s reputation for exceptional dermatologic care.

What is your favorite restaurant in Monmouth County?

Drew’s Bayshore Bistro in Keyport. My husband and I had our first date there about 10 years ago when we met in medical school. The spicy “Voodoo” shrimp never disappoints.

Sea Bright Pizza is our go-to Friday night treat.

What is your favorite activity to do with your children in Monmouth County?

I love going to Victory Park in Rumson in the evening and bringing dinner to eat picnic style. Taking in the views of the Navesink River while watching the kids play in the park always reminds me why this is such a special place to live.

What are your Mom Goals?

I strive to be a role model to my boys and teach them to pursue their dreams with confidence. To be kind, honest and genuine. To embrace challenge and work hard, but always carve out time for fun. I hope they find what makes them happy and always know they are supported and loved beyond measure.
