Meet-a-Dad Monday: Meet Jon Torine! | The Monmouth Moms
Meet Jon Torine! Owner of the new i9 Sports of Monmouth County, Jon is a Fair Haven, NJ resident and former NFL football coach. After spending the better part of two decades coaching professional football, Jon says an incident with his own son’s youth baseball team encouraged him to bring the i9 Sports program to Monmouth County. His passion for running the i9 program is contagious, as he truly believes children should have fun while playing their favorite sports. Learn more about Jon’s life here in Monmouth County, his favorite thing to do with his two boys, and more about how your children can join i9 Sports this summer in our interview below!

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?

I was born and raised in Livingston, NJ.  I have lived in Fair Haven for nine years.

Child(ren) and Age(s)?

Spencer – 18

Isaac – 17

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…

I was the youngest in the history of the NFL to be hired as a head strength and conditioning coach when the Indianapolis Colts appointed me to that role in 1998 bringing me over from the Buffalo Bills where I was the youngest assistant strength coach. We were in Indianapolis for fourteen years and our team played in two Super Bowls, winning the World Championship in Super Bowl XLI, in 2006.

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?

Of course my wife, Ilana of twenty one years on June 18th. My parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins have been incredible role models on parenting for us. I’ve seen parenthood through the eyes of my mentors in coaching as well, where coaching and parenthood are often interchangeable skills.

Favorite things to do with your kids?

Anything I’m doing with them it really doesn’t matter. We do however all love fishing together and put a lot of time into that together.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!

We own and operate i9 Sports – Monmouth County. This is an incredible youth sports experience where character is modeled and developed through the platform of sports and healthy competition. We are a multi-sport program for children ages 3-14 plus offering soccer, t-ball/baseball, basketball, flag football, volleyball, lacrosse and athlete development. We offer our sports all year round giving children an opportunity to experience, learn and excel in many sports.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

Monmouth County has been a second home to me as I spent much of my childhood with my grandparents in Bradley Beach.  I’ve seen this area grow in so many ways over the decades and we are honored to be here.  This is where I’ve always wanted to live and be a contributing member of the community.  We happen to do this with children, parents and coaches through sports.  A rising tide raises all ships.

What is your favorite restaurant in Monmouth County?

Vic’s – Bradley Beach

What is your favorite activity to do with your children in Monmouth County?

Fishing

What are your Dad Goals?

My favorite word is Dad. I want to live up to that with my children, where they are proud to call me Dad. I have one son heading to Indiana University in August and another one heading to college the following year. My goal is to be as present and connected with them as we always have been as we enter this new chapter in all of our lives.
