Meet this week’s Meet-A-Mom Angela Mancini, a Monmouth County native born and raised! Angela is a remarkably strong wife and mom of two sweet kids, both under 5 years old. Angela dealt with bullying growing up and after giving birth to her second child she suffered postpartum depression and anxiety. The hardships she has faced make her a mom that we definitely look up to and can relate with. She recently opened her own private mental health practice, La Luna Counseling and Wellness. She realized that our area was lacking services for postpartum moms and she specializes in mental health therapy for postpartum moms. Thank you Angela for helping moms in our area, you are truly a wonderful and selfless mama helping others! Read more below about Angela’s family and other ways she can help moms in Monmouth County!
Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?
I am originally from Freehold, but my husband and I bought a house in Colts Neck almost two years ago. A Jersey girl forever!
Child(ren) and Age(s)?
I have a crazy 3-year-old Tony, who likes to go by “Tony Macaroni Mancini” and a 5-month-old Luna.
One thing people would be surprised to know about you…
Something that would surprise people would be that I’ve dealt with bullying throughout most of my childhood, but I feel that it has made me who I am today. When people are put through hardships, they can either let it destroy them or come out stronger. I did the latter.
Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?
I need to first and foremost thank my mom for being an amazing role model for me and my two brothers growing up. She is who I strive to be when parenting my children. I also need to thank my dad and my two brothers. My kids love going to their house and playing with them, and always seem to come home with a new toy. Also, I have very supportive in-laws that I need to thank for always being my on-call babysitters. Lastly, I must thank my tribe of mom friends. They make the daily mundane tasks bearable. They make me realize that I am not crazy. And they love my children like they are their own.
Favorite things to do with your kids?
My favorite things to do with my kids is to go for walks and explore the beach for shells. I love to see my kids interact with other kids, so I actually love to host playdates at our house!
Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate
world? Please share!
I just opened my own mental health private practice. I specialize in mental health therapy for postpartum women. After giving birth to my second I suffered postpartum depression and anxiety. I realized that this is a population that needs help and is forgotten about. There needs to be more services for these women. This inspired me to open La Luna Counseling and Wellness. I will be doing one on one therapy as well as groups and meetups. I will be hosting a Mom Tribe meetup monthly, which will include a mom’s night out, support group and private Facebook and Instagram group. I am also a certified yoga instructor so I like to incorporate yoga, breathing and mindfulness in my sessions with clients.
How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
Community is so important. I don’t think I would have survived motherhood without my community. Monmouth Moms is such an amazing group and place to learn about the community!
What is your favorite restaurant in Monmouth County?
My favorite restaurant is Huddy’s in Colts Neck! I eat there almost weekly!
What is your favorite activity to do with your child(ren) in Monmouth County?
My favorite Monmouth County activity to do with my children is to walk on the Asbury Park boardwalk.
We can get shells, play on the playground, eat lunch then get ice cream! That’s a whole days’ worth of
activities!
What are your Mom Goals?
My mom goals would be that when my children look back on their childhood, they can say without
hesitation that they were happy and had fun!
