  Meet-A-Mom

Meet S. Amna Husain, MD, FAAP! This beautiful mompreneur lives in Marlboro, NJ with her daughter and husband. A rockstar mom and wife, Dr. Husain is also involved with some incredible businesses, AND runs a pediatric practice right here in Monmouth County. When she’s not working, Dr. Husain loves spending time with her daughter at Bell Works and staying fit! Read more about Dr. Husain’s accomplishments, and what she loves about living in Monmouth County with her family!

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?

Originally, I’m a North Carolina girl! I was born in New York but raised in North Carolina. My husband is from Bergen County and after we had our daughter, we moved to New Jersey for the next chapter of our lives and currently live in Marlboro for the last 1.5 years!

Child(ren) and Age(s)?

I have one daughter who just turned two!

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…

I love fitness! Exercising is one of my favorite ways to challenge myself, grow personally, and improve my mental endurance. For me, it’s almost like a non-traditional method of meditation by focusing on breathing, form, and self-care.

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?

My nanny! It really does take a village to raise a child, and our nanny has become almost like a member of our family! It warms my heart to see how much my daughter loves her and how attached they are. In a two physician household where we both own our practices, life is busy and our nanny has helped us a lot so that we can accommodate last minute patients, meetings, or marketing opportunities.

Favorite things to do with your kids?

I love going to Bell Works with my daughter! She loves the turf and the open running area, and I love the coffee and chance to stroll!

I’m also a big fan of going out to breakfast. It’s one of my favorite family meals, plus with kids, you’re always up early anyway! We love the new restaurant Project Brunch!

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!

Absolutely! I work alongside some really amazing companies. RiseWell is a natural toothpaste free of all toxic ingredients but still effective than most natural toothpastes on the market! Parents get 10% off by using promo code HUSAIN10.

I also work along side a baby food company called Yumi. It’s a fresh, organic, baby food delivery service free of synthetic materials with USDA organic and kosher certified blends. Promo code AMNA35BP allows families 1 free week!

When I was a new mom, I read a book called “Return to Leave” which helped mothers navigate retuning back to work after taking parental leave. I was so inspired by the short but amazing book, that I reached out to the author-a lawyer mother in DC. She has a 4-week online Mindful Return program that helps new parents navigate the transition back to work after parental leave that I encourage families to check out! There are courses for mothers and fathers.

Love Every is a child development play subscription I highly recommend for families! They have some amazing toys developed by experts with the underlying theme of play time with a purpose.

Lastly, I most recently teamed up with Bark which delivers research backed and kid-friendly solution for safeguarding families in the digital age. It was created by parents for parents to offer a better and more effective way to keep children safe online. It covers 24 digital platforms and gives parents automatic alerts for example of: cyberbullying, depression, or inappropriate content. In today’s digital age, that is huge and such an amazing tool for families!

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

When I started my pediatric practice, I always cared more about quality over quantity. I wanted to be the pediatrician you had in the family, the confidant you could turn to, the physician you knew would advocate for you. As a millennial mother, I created the practice I knew fellow millennial moms would want and look for: old fashioned medicine with a personal touch meets modern technology. This community has really embraced by practice Pure Direct Pediatrics and get the philosophy about why it is that I chose to open NJ’s first direct primary care pediatric practice.

What is your favorite restaurant in Monmouth County?

Cuzin’s

What is your favorite activity to do with your child(ren) in Monmouth County?

What are your Mom Goals?

Survive…? No, just kidding! I created my practice to provide myself with some work life balance. I’ve done the 90 hour work weeks with an infant; it was tough. I never want to do that again. Now that my daughter is older, I want to be there and present for her as much as possible without sacrificing my passion: medicine. However, just like being a physician is part of me but not who I am, motherhood is the same. I want to have some degree of “work life fit” in my life as harmoniously as possible
