For nine months I eagerly anticipated the birth of my first child. I had wanted a baby for so long. All I ever wanted to be was a mother and her due date was quickly arriving. I had a great pregnancy and everything seemed to be going as planned. Nursery painted with the perfect shade of beige-grey…check. Crown molding in…check. Trendy Pottery Barn crib installed…check. All clothes washed and put away…check. Hospital bag packed…check. Birthing plan…check. Then the day comes on like a whirlwind and anything you think you may know and all the plans you think you planned so accurately goes right out the window.
Now you are home with this beautiful precious fragile baby and reality sets in. It’s you and that baby… day and night. You heard it was hard from your friends, but you didn’t know what the feeling would be like. You never felt so much joy and you never felt so exhausted. How could this little being consume so much energy from you?
My husband came home one day from work with an envelope. Annoyed already, because I thought it was a bill I forgot to pay, I was so surprised when the contents inside were a gift certificate for a facial. “Go relax, you need this” he said. Shamefully, I first asked myself how bad I must look to warrant this gift. However, I was grateful for his attention to detail. I did need it, I was sooooooo tired.
The following week, my first time back into civilization (by myself), I travel 5 minutes within my town to Synergy Wellness and Medispa, located conveniently on Highway 35 South. I walk into the spa and no lie, I literally exhaled. As soon as I walked through the threshold I was transcended into a new mindset. I already felt relaxed. I was greeted by some sweet smiles at the front desk. They guided me to the quaint sitting area with some cold citrus water and gave me the menu to look at while I waited shortly for my appointment to start. I quickly called my mom to check in on the baby, I know I know, first time mom nerves, I had only been gone for a total of 7 minutes afterall! Once my mom assured me all was ok at home, I began to look over the menu. Oh my word! It was like looking at a playground for moms! There was anything you could ever want; peels, massages, multiple different facials, waxing services, IV therapy, Botox, laser hair removal, microneedling, coolsculpting (immediately asked about that and when I could start as I looked down at my saggy postpartum belly!), and medical weight loss services. I mean hello! Where had this place been all my life? This wasn’t an ordinary spa, it was a wellness center! Their highly trained staff consists of a doctor, two physician assistants, aesthetician, registered nurse, massage therapists, and cosmetic tattoo specialist. I was thoroughly impressed.
Elizabeth, the experienced aesthetician on staff, took me back for my “30 Minutes of Heaven Facial.” It was just that, heavenly!!!! The facial cleansed my skin but also exfoliated it and moisturized my terribly neglected mug. When I saw my skin after the facial, I was astounded; my skin hadn’t shined like that since I was a juvenile, ya know the time when we thought we were overweight and ugly (insert eye roll). My initial belief that this was going to be something relaxing (although it was extraordinarily relaxing) was not the mindset I should have had. I now realized that this is a necessity, my skin needed this. It’s part of my health and wellbeing. After all, your skin is the largest organ of your body. Being a mom, we need to realize in order to take care of a baby, we need to take care of us as well. Synergy Wellness and Medispa will not be a one-time “treat” for me, it will be part of my wellness routine. Don’t forget to take care of you momma! Go make your appointment!
